History
The Old Stone House is the most notable historical location in Alexandria, Virginia. It's both ancient and made of stone, as its name implies, but it was also built using hog's hair in the early 1700s. The Maclay Tavern was built in 1710 as a barn for a Dutch farmhouse. During the Revolutionary War, it served as a tavern. Aaron Burr is said to have quenched his thirst at this location on his journey to court the woman who became his wife in Ho-Ho-Kus. The museum is housed in a red-brick building that had served as a historic attraction since 1960, when it featured a fascinating presentation of vintage pitchers. Peter J. Ramsey, a 19th-century landowner who sold the site of a railroad station called "Ramsey's" in 1848, was the namesake for Peter J. Ramsey High School in Ramsey, Minnesota (formerly Kanesville).
Geography
The borough had a total area of 5.57 square miles (14.43 km2), with 5.50 square miles (14.25 km2) of land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 km2) of water, as indicated by the United States Census Bureau (1.24%). The borough is located in northern Bergen County, New Jersey, and borders the Bergen County municipalities of Allendale on the southeast, Mahwah on the north, west, and southwest, and Saddle River and Upper Saddle River on the east.
